A Fond Farewell

A WORK IN PROGRESS The Danny Woo Garden, I tell visitors, is unlike a park in that it is a continuously evolving space. It is a green-space tended by and for the community. We see evidence of this evolution in the progression of improvements made to the garden over its thirty year history. From its expansion in 1980, to the construction of its shed, the entryway, the raised beds at the crown of the hill. And more recently with the reconstruction of old retaining walls, new ornamental garden spaces, new paths, stairs, lights, or plumbing - the garden is never DONE. It’s a work in progress. We are currently raising funds for the development of areas adjacent to the Metropolitan Park Apartments at the north and west ends of the garden. By developing these spaces, we will be able to provide my seating areas and ornamental gardens, as well as new garden plots for seniors on our waitlist. Improvements will enhance the physical and visual connection between these areas and the core of the garden, counteracting the abuses these areas sometimes suffer. Improvements will include new storage areas, a serviceable toilet, and a common work space that can double as a seating area during community events. Wish us luck as we approach funders for support of this project. |
