Samaki Commons Family Housing Project To Begin Construction in Summer 2008

Inter*Im's latest affordable housing project, Samaki Commons is a 40 unit family housing project to be constructed in the Othello neighborhood in Rainier Valley, and adjacent to the Lao Highland Community Center.  This project will serve a range of families and households, with units ranging from 1 to 4 bedrooms, and will provide affordable family housing to help maintain the existing diversity for Rainier Valley residents, where housing costs continue to increase.  This project has received support from a number of community groups in the neighborhood, as well as funding support from the City of Seattle, Rainier Valley Community Development Loan Fund, King County, the State Housing Trust Fund, the Gates Foundation and the Seattle Housing Authority.  Low income housing tax credits are anticipated in 2008.  Construction is projected to commence in July of this year and to be completed by the end of 2009.

For more information on the project, contact Leslie Morishita, ICDA Housing Planner, at lmorishita@interimicda.org, (206) 624-1802, ext. 19.

ICDA Welcomes our new Executive Director - Hyeok Kim

The Inter*Im Community Development Association (ICDA) is pleased to announce the hiring of Hyeok Kim as its Executive Director, effective May 1, 2008. ICDA, based in Seattle’s International District, is a comprehensive community development corporation responsible for promoting, advocating for, and revitalizing the International District and other Asian Pacific Islander communities in the Puget Sound region.

Ms. Kim, currently a Senior Policy Analyst with the Washington State House Democratic Caucus, brings a strong and varied background of expertise in housing-related and social justice issues, community organizing, and fundraising. Her community activities include serving as Honorary Co-Chair of the successful Schools First! Seattle Schools Levy Campaign, a volunteer national trainer for the Norman Y. Mineta Leadership Institute with APIAVote, President of the Asian Pacific Islander Community Leadership Foundation, and a Commissioner on the Seattle’s Women’s Commission.

"It's an honor for me to step into this leadership role at ICDA," said Ms. Kim. "Our Asian Pacific Islander community in Seattle and across the state is undergoing significant change and growth, and I'm excited to be part of an organization like ICDA that has the history and expertise to help plan and advocate for our community on housing and other community development needs."

Ms. Kim replaces Elaine I. Ko who left ICDA in January. A community reception will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Four Seas Restaurant in Seattle to welcome Ms. Kim to ICDA
